Chairing a meeting of the Economic Coordination Council on Sunday, Pezeshkian said the Iranian media, including national broadcast should provide documented analyses to the people on the government's performance during the critical times.
Referring to some false and unfair media narratives about the causes of the increase in inflation, he said all price hikes cannot be attributed solely to the administration's performance as the country's economy is directly affected by the war, restrictions resulting from sanctions, and trade pressures.
"Under the current circumstances, managing the economy requires making responsible decisions, honest dialogue with the people, and avoiding making unfulfillable promises," the president noted, adding that media should also not disturb public opinion and cast a negative light on the government's performance.
During the meeting attended by Pezeshkian's cabinet colleagues, a report on the measures taken in the field of supplying and distributing basic goods, a report on budget, as well as a forecast of the country's foreign exchange resources and expenditures in the current year, were discussed and examined by experts.
The meeting also reviewed various scenarios for the country's economy and the government's policies and programs to deal with challenges, and strategies to maintain economic stability, and people's livelihoods.
Emphasizing the necessity of providing the resources needed to implement supportive policies, Pezeshkian emphasized the administration's strategic priority in supporting household livelihoods, calling it a fundamental principle for him.
He said the government is obliged to take action with all its capacities to improve people's purchasing power and reduce economic pressures on different segments of society, adding that managing costs and eliminating unnecessary expenses must also be seriously put on the agenda.
Pezeshkian, once again, called for management of energy, saying that effective programs must be implemented in the water, electricity, and fuel sectors, and that the resources generated from these savings must be directly used to improve people's livelihoods.
Elsewhere, he emphasized the need to explain the country's economic realities to the public, calling on the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance and other agencies to play a more active role in informing the public.
