Tabriz, IRNA – The trade balance of Aras Free Trade Zone (FTZ), in Iran’s northwestern East Azerbaijan Province, was $260 million in the first nine months of the Iranian calendar year, the chairman of the board of directors and the CEO of Aras Free Zone Organization says.

Hadi Moghadamzadeh told IRNA on Monday the Aras FTZ achieved a positive trade balance, with exports of $441 million in goods and services and imports of $181 million, indicating the dynamism of production and strengthening of economic infrastructure in the region.

Commending the production capacity, investor confidence, and the effective role of the Aras Free Zone Organization in the country’s economic and trade development, he reported a significant rise of 320% in domestic investment this year so far.

According to him, there were also an unprecedented leap in the realization of foreign investment, which saw a 447% increase to $148 million, compared to $27 million in the same period last year.

Moghadamzadeh continued by referring to the production in the Aras FTZ said the level reached 395,000 billion rials with a growth of 169% compared to the same period last year.

The establishment of free trade zones in Iran dates back to 1989, following the fall in the country’s oil income which prompted the government to promote non-oil exports.
